Abbey began her teaching career 11 years ago at Crest View Elementary as a student-teacher. During that experience, she came to appreciate diversity in the classroom and how it forms our perspectives of others, ourselves, and the world around us. She learned how a classroom of diverse learners naturally teaches individuals empathy, understanding, and cooperation. Working at Crest View prompted me to work abroad and begin investing time in learning about different cultures. Over the next few years, she lived and worked in Peru and Spain teaching English and learning Spanish. Moving back, she wanted to learn more about how to teach diverse demographics of students and subsequently earned my masters in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education with a focus on teaching students learning English. She has now taught at Crest View for four years and is in her 10th year of teaching overall. She loves working with her students and plan to continue working for equity and opportunity for all students.
