Success Stories

Yameli and Antonio

Yameli was born in Mexico and grew up in Illinois before moving to Colorado in 2007 to be closer to family. She met her husband Antonio after high school in 2013 and they had two daughters, Abigail and Isabella. She decided to work in BVSD due to the flexibility when she had her children and moved to work for the Boulder county with preschoolers as a family advocate, empowering families to be the biggest advocate for their children. They love to go camping together and enjoy the outdoors as a family.

Ammie

Ammie is a Colorado native who called Thornton home growing up. She always knew that she wanted to serve in law enforcement and after she received her bachelor’s in criminal justice, she was offered a position with Boulder County. She fell in love with the job and has now worked for the Boulder Sheriff’s office for 8 years and has been a jail deputy for 4 years after working in a civilian position to get her foot in the door.

Shannon

Shannon has been teaching preschool for 15 years, having moved from teaching at Boston University Children’s Center and now teaches pre-k in Broomfield. She loves her job and having such a close connection with her students is something she treasures deeply.
She and her daughter Emmaline enjoy crafting, swimming, hiking, biking, and enjoying all of Colorado together.

Abbey

Abbey began her teaching career 11 years ago at Crest View Elementary as a student-teacher. During that experience, she came to appreciate diversity in the classroom and how it forms our perspectives of others, ourselves, and the world around us. She learned how a classroom of diverse learners naturally teaches individuals empathy, understanding, and cooperation. Working at Crest View prompted me to work abroad and begin investing time in learning about different cultures. Over the next few years, she lived and worked in Peru and Spain teaching English and learning Spanish. Moving back, she wanted to learn more about how to teach diverse demographics of students and subsequently earned my masters in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education with a focus on teaching students learning English. She has now taught at Crest View for four years and is in her 10th year of teaching overall. She loves working with her students and plan to continue working for equity and opportunity for all students.

Shauna

Shauna grew up in Davis, CA before attending nursing school at Illinois State University. She moved to Colorado after living in Seattle for 5 years. She has been a nurse for almost 7 years and is currently working at Good Samaritan medical center and has been working tirelessly in the Emergency Department for the last 4 years and also spent a month in ICU during the peak of Covid.

Sarah

Sarah is a third grade teacher at Bear Creek Elementary in Boulder, Colorado. She grew up in Broomfield, CO with her older brother twins and was inspired by her mother to become a teacher. She was (and still is) involved in the special education field and watching her work with kids sparked Sarah’s interest in working with young learners. Sarah volunteered frequently growing up at her elementary school to work with students and knew her future would involve working with children from then on. She attended Western Colorado University where she pursued her dream of teaching. Once graduated, she moved back to the front range and received her first teaching job at Bear Creek Elementary. A few years later, she received a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy from CU Boulder. She’s now in her ninth year of teaching and loves it as much as she did on the very first day.
